What Sets Our Work Apart

Ruamjai approaches every repair the same way — with care, clear communication, and the right tools for the job. Here is what that means in practice.

At a Glance

Honest Assessment First

We examine the watch before quoting and we share what we find. No work starts without your agreement.

Communication Throughout

If something unexpected comes up during the service, we contact you before continuing — not after.

Appropriate Equipment

Timing machines, ultrasonic cleaners, and grade-appropriate lubricants — the same tools a serious watchmaker uses.

Original Parts Retained

For older watches, original components are kept wherever function allows — maintaining the watch's character and history.

Clear, Upfront Pricing

Service prices are stated from the beginning. If anything would affect the final figure, that conversation happens before the work does.

Service Documentation

Restoration and full service records are written up and handed to you with the watch — useful for future reference and resale.

Depth of Practical Experience

The Ruamjai team has worked with mechanical and quartz movements across a broad range of calibres — from common ETA and Miyota movements to older Swiss lever escapements and early Japanese automatics. That range matters because different movements need different approaches, and a watchmaker who has seen a variety of problems is better positioned to identify an unusual one.

  • Mechanical and quartz movements
  • Vintage and modern calibres
  • Swiss, Japanese, and Thai-market watches

"Experience with a range of movements means we recognise problems that are easy to miss — worn keyless works, mainsprings near the end of their service life, balance wheels running slightly off-centre. Catching these during a routine service saves the owner a second visit later."

— Wanchai Charoenwong, Lead Watchmaker

Workshop Equipment

  • Ultrasonic cleaning station for movement parts
  • Timing machine for multi-position regulation
  • Pressure tester for water resistance verification
  • Watchmaker-grade lubricants by movement type
  • Magnification and inspection lighting

The Right Tools for Each Job

A watch service done with inadequate equipment can look fine at first and fail within months. Cleaning a movement by hand rather than ultrasonically leaves residue in oil channels. Lubricating without measuring the beat rate and amplitude on a timing machine means regulation is guesswork. The tools in our workshop are chosen because the job requires them — not as a display.

A Service Built Around the Owner

We recognise that leaving a watch with someone requires a degree of trust. Our process is designed to maintain that trust — through transparency about what we find, communication when decisions need to be made, and an honest account of what the watch needs versus what it does not.

If the repair cost is not justified for a particular watch, we will say so. If we cannot source a part without affecting originality, we discuss the options. The owner makes the decisions; we provide the information to make them well.

What to expect

  • Written summary of findings before work starts
  • Notification if additional work becomes necessary
  • Progress contact for longer restoration jobs
  • Handover notes at collection

Pricing That Reflects the Work

Our service prices reflect the time, skill, and materials each job involves. A battery change done with a seal review and water resistance test costs more than a simple swap — because it is a more complete service that actually addresses the watch's long-term needs.

We do not add hidden charges. If a quoted service turns out to be simpler than expected, the price adjusts accordingly. If it is more involved, we discuss that before proceeding.

What Makes Ruamjai Different

Collaborative Restoration

For heirloom and older watches, the owner is involved in decisions throughout — not simply presented with a result. This is unusual in watch repair and something we consider essential.

Conservative Approach to Originality

We do not refinish dials or repolish cases unless asked. The watch's age and character are part of its value, and we work to preserve both alongside its function.

Thai and English Service

We communicate comfortably in both Thai and English, which matters when discussing nuanced decisions about an older movement or a cherished family piece.

Accessible Central Location

The Khlong Toei workshop is well-connected by public transport and easy to reach from most parts of Bangkok — useful when dropping off and collecting a piece you would rather not entrust to a courier.
